Biomass and Bio-fumigation
The use of soil additives in the form of composts and green manure require incorporation throughout the soil profile; just ploughing the crop in does not achieve the desired objective, as it can leave a layer that can take a considerable time to break down. K&S Services use a spading machine to incorporate the biomass down to a depth of nearly half a metre. The other advantages of this treatment is that no plough pan is created, as it goes below that depth; it increases the root zone for subsequent crops; and the action of a spading machine does not damage the soil structure as some cultivation equipment can.
For bio-fumigation to work effectively full incorporation needs to take place with sealing to contain the bio-fumigants. The K&S Services spading machine has the option of smear rolling the soil, reducing the need for further tractor operations over the treated area.
